THOMAS TELFORD, the commercial arm of the ICE, has launched practical guidance on using the New Engineering Contract (NEC), including the new NEC partnering option, Option X12.
NEC and partnering: the guide to building winning teams comes less than a month after the launch of Option X12, which encourages cross party co-operation through the use of key performance indicators linked to bonus payments.
The book uses a number of case studies to defend the central role of the NEC and partnering in improving construction practice. Partnering came under fire at the recent AME annual conference (NCE last week), when the ICE launched another guide, Public authority procurement strategy.
The case studies in NEC and partnering describe projects that all exceed the performance targets set out in the Latham and Egan reports and so, its authors claim, 'confirm that NEC is a crucial tool in enabling engineering and construction firms to meet the increasingly tough demands made by leading customers'.
