CARILLION SOLD its environmental business Stanger to UK environmental consultant Casella last month.
The acquisition, believed to be worth £3M, gives Casella/Stanger a combined annual turnover of £20M. The new group hopes to achieve £30M turnover by the end of next financial year and to beat the environmental consulting market's 15% a year growth rate through further, organic, expansion.
A review of the Stanger's business structure is now under way, said the firm's business development manager Jason Woodford.
He insisted that there would be no job losses. New EU and UK legislation, plus the rise of risk-based environmental assessment and management has boosted the environmental workload, he said.
A spokesman for Carillion said the sale was part of its ongoing push to consolidate core contracting activities. Stanger will continue to work on Carillion's environmental performance improvement programme under a long-term service agreement.
