I have paid my ICE subscriptions for nearly 50 years, even though my retirement nine years ago made this unnecessary. In addition, for over 25 years I have given freely of my time for unpaid service to the Institution on countless committees and panels. I am shocked by the suggestion that I should seek charity [from the Benevolent Fund] if I require some small thanks for all this. I shall not be renewing my subscription.
