CALEDONIAN CONTRIBUTION

CALEDONIAN CONTRIBUTION: Newly refurbished by British Waterways, Neptune's Staircase on the Caledonian Canal received a special commendation in this year's British Construction Industry Awards. Consultant Mott MacDonald provided assistance on two key features. As well as developing a design for replacement walkways across each of the eight new lock gates, the firm provided conceptual and detailed hydraulic designs for the bypass system which allows the water level in lower reaches of the canal to be maintained while the locks are out of commission.
