Former Institution of Civil Engineers president Geoff French has been appointed chairman of the Align, joint venture bidding for High Speed 2 (HS2) contracts.

Align, comprising Bouygues Travaux Publics, Sir Robert McAlpine, and VolkerFitzpatrick, last year appointed Jacobs and Ingérop-Rendel as design partners for the bids.

It is in the running for four of the seven packages worth a total of £11.8bn for civil engineering works on HS2.

French said: “I am delighted to be given the opportunity, through Align, to work with some of the leading and most future-minded contractors in the market, and mostly to be part of a consortium whose highest priority is to leave a lasting legacy for Britain’s future”.

Bouygues Travaux Publics managing director in the UK Vincent Avrillon added: “Align welcomes a well-known and immensely valued industry figure, but also a great man who has an in-depth understanding of collaborative working along with a clear articulation of our vision of a legacy for future generations.”
