Business as usual

SYSTEMS GEOTECHNIQUE has nearly finished a four-month, £350,000 contract to install 1,500 soil nails for a 1,250m long embankment on the Prologis Business Park development near Wellingborough in Northamptonshire.

The nails, which are up to 19m long, are being placed at 25¦ and the embankment, by the park's perimeter road, will slope at 45¦.

Systems Geotechnique, working for main contractor Buckingham Group Contracting, is using Klemm 708 rigs fitted with 100mm to 170mm diameter augers to drill the boreholes for the nails, which are grouted up with a 1:1 sand and cement mix. Nails are locked off with galvanised load-bearing plates and nuts.
