The first bridge drop on the £125M A2/M2 widening project took place this weekend. Forge Lane bridge, near the village of Bredhurst, was taken down by the Costain/Skanska/ Mowlem joint venture on Saturday night during the first motorway closure of the project. The 1960s reinforced two lane concrete bridge is the first of 14 to be demolished. It was packed down with impact breakers, as explosives have been banned on the project.

The crushed concrete will be re-used as capping material.

Work on the replacement bridge will being immediately.
