Boost for Scottish tidal scheme

Four power turbines have been secured for a tidal mega scheme in Scottish Waters.

Renewable energy firm Atlantis revealed it had signed a deal with Andritz Hydro Hammerfest for the supply of three 1.5MW tidal power turbines for Phase 1A of its MeyGen project.

Atlantis added that it would itself supply a further 1.5MW turbine to the same phase of the scheme planned for the Pentland Firth.

The energy firm earlier this summer said it would start construction of the MeyGen scheme later this year.

It won £10M government funding for the scheme in February 2013, and further European funding this February.
