Boost for £2bn wind farm

Mott MacDonald is to work on a mammoth €2.8bn (£2.3bn) wind farm off the coast of the Netherlands after the scheme reached financial close.

The Gemini offshore wind farm, located 85km from the coast of Groningen, will comprise 150 turbines with a combined 600MW generating capacity.

Mott MacDonald is lenders’ technical advisor and engineer on the project. The company will provide construction and operational monitoring services.

Marios Papalexandrou, Mott MacDonald project manager, said: “We reported to the lenders on technical, environmental and commercial aspects of the project, which led to the largest ever successful financial close in the wind sector.”

The Gemini wind farm is expected to be fully operational in 2017.
