Body aims to put women at forefront of major projects

The cross-industry Major Projects Association (MPA) has announced plans to help women achieve leadership positions on significant schemes.

It said that although there are increasing numbers of women recruited at apprentice and graduate level, there was a problem with retention and promotion to leadership positions.

The body launched its Gender Balance Initiative, which includes a new section of its website aimed at helping members solve the problem. Not only will the area signpost to networking events and awareness raising activities, it will be an area for discussion.

The MPA has also endorsed the WISE Ten Steps campaign for greater gender balance, meaning members get discounts to WISE support, workshops and cultural assessment tools.

The MPA will support a piece of research on women in major project leadership that is being conducted by Ashridge Business School.
