BMT tackles Thames Tunnel drive and barges

Design, engineering and risk management consultant BMT Isis will help Thames Water to develop the overall tunnel drive strategy and river transport arrangements for the Thames Tunnel mega-sewer.

BMT has recently undertaken site specific navigational risk assessments and used them to produce an overall report, which is to be passed to the Port of London Authority Navigation Advisory Panel (NAP) for endorsement and comment.

BMT has also worked on feasibility studies regarding the best use of the River Thames during the project to support construction and the transport of excavated material by barge.

The consultant is also advising Thames Water on the navigational impact, vessel access constraints and vessel requirements that would arise from the changes to work sites that the water company is now considering, following the first phase of public consultation on the Thames Tunnel.
