Birmingham Northern Relief Road developer Midland Expressway


Birmingham Northern Relief Road developer Midland Expressway had decided against awarding the construction contract to Kvaerner Italstrade joint venture. Kvaerner was one of the original shareholders in the project, but its investments arm has since been sold to Macquarie Bank. New tenders will now be sought.

Edinburgh's £105M east-west Crossrail scheme is to get an £800,000 boost from the shadow Strategic Rail Authority. The project is being developed as a partnership between the Scottish Executive, Edinburgh City Council, ScotRail, Railtrack and the sSRA.

BICC Group is to be renamed Balfour Beatty following disposal of BrandRex, one of its last remaining telecommunications and cabling businesses. Caradon has agreed to pay £145M for the business. The group has been restructuring around Balfour Beatty's construction division since Mike Welton took over as chief executive.
