Bills promising big opportunities in Queen's Speech

Bills promising big opportunities for civil engineers were included in the Queen's Speech this week. The hybrid Crossrail bill, which was carried over from the previous government, is included (see page 7), alongside a new road safety bill into which a tranche of road safety measures will be packaged.

The Welsh Assembly would be given new powers to empower and fund transport schemes under the transport (Wales) bill. An Olympics bill would create a new authority to oversee preparation for a 2012 Olympics in London's Lower Lea Valley - if London's bid is successful.
