BIET committed to vertical integration

ANALYSIS

I am writing in reference to your profile of Joe Dwyer ICE Vice President (NCE 17 June).

BIET is seeking Corporate status, which would allow all professionally qualified Members to take part in the governance of the Institution. However, it should be noted that BIET is not pursuing either Chartered status nor use of the title Chartered Civil Engineer.

To bring about the expected increase in Associate Membership as a consequence of the implementation of 'the New Routes to Membership', it is essential BIET and the new working party agree a positive process that will provide an attractive and appropriate package of benefits to encourage present and future Associate Members alike.

The Board remains committed to achieving 'full vertical integration' and welcomes the establishment of the working party, under the chairmanship of ICE Vice President Joe Dwyer, to progress the process.

Stuart Hamilton (AM), Chairman, BIET
