Biet closes the final curtain

THE BOARD of Incorporated Engineers & Technicians (BIET) celebrated its own funeral last week at its farewell dinner at the ICE.

Full vertical integration of all grades of ICE membership has now been achieved thanks to the ICE Council's landmark decision last September to introduce dual corporate membership (NCE 14 September 2000). As a result BIET has achieved what it set out to do and is needed no more.

BIET chairman Tony Chapman thanked those who had supported BIET since its formation as SCET. ICE senior vice president Mark Whitby then urged incorporated engineers to 'not think of this as the end, but rather a new beginning.'

Over 200 incorporated engineers have already applied to advance from associate to full member of the Institution since the applications procedure was opened in August.

Some 140 applications have now been processed, and none has yet been turned down.
