BGA touring lecture 2004

Earthquake engineering design of foundations: from research to practice Alain Pecker, from Geodynamique et Structure in France, will examine the recommendations for earthquake resistance in foundation design in Eurocode 8.

To date there has been little in the way of code-based recommendations to cover design of foundations built to resist earthquake loading.Eurocode 8 is an exception, containing an extensive section on the subject, developed using the results of a number of special investigations, both laboratory and theoretical.

Pecker will cover shallow and deep foundations and illustrate the new trends in earthquake resistant design of foundations, including displacement-based design and capacity design philosophy.

The lecture will be given in Southampton on 16 November, Manchester on 17 November and Newcastle on 18 November. For more information contact Gavin Bowyer at the BGA, tel:0207 665 2233; email: bgs@ice. org. uk
