Behind the design

Bridges : Products and services

York Millennium Footbridge, Gateshead Millennium Bridge and Falkirk Millennium Wheel are just some of the recent high profile projects designed using LUSAS Bridge analysis software.

Spanning the River Ouse, the 80m stainless steel Whitby Bird & Partners designed York footbridge was inspired by the spokes of a wheel, says the firm. The structure has an inclined arch with radially aligned cables supporting a slender box girder deck. LUSAS Bridge was used to perform linear, geometrically non-linear and dynamic analyses. Seismic load, prestress, fatigue and grillage can be analysed in depth on all types of bridge, LUSAS claims.
