Bechtel puts infrastructure services online

AMERICAN CONSTRUCTION management specialist Bechtel has launched a infrastructure-dedicated internet portal, InfrastructureWorld, with backing from International Finance Corporation, part of the World Bank.

Services include consulting on project feasibility, finance, design, bidding, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance, said chief executive Cordell Hull.

The enterprise has signed deals with municipal authorities in Kobe, Japan, energy group Enron and a major European bank.

Hull said the new business was currently investing nearly $1.5M a month and aims to break even in 2002 with an annual turnover of $36M.
