Four 80t steel beams have been lifted into place over the new £70M A130 bypass at Rettendon Turnpike in Essex.

Main contractor Laing used a 500t crane to position the beams for the 49m central span of the new three span bridge, which will carry the A132 over the new bypass. Laing is on target to complete the 9km northern section of the contract by November this year. Work starts next month on the 5km southern section, and overall completion is scheduled for March 2003. Client for the project is CountyRoute, which was awarded a 30 year design build finance and operate concession by Essex County Council in January last year.
