Bauer’s Russian subsidiary has won a contract to undertake the foundations work for the Lakhta Tower in St Petersburg, which at 420m will be Europe’s tallest building when it is completed in 2018.

Work on constructing the 260 bored piles with a diameter of 2m to a depth of 85m will start this month and is expected to take until June 2013 to complete.

The contractor will use two BG40 and two BG28 drilling rigs to undertake the work for main contractor Arabtec.
