Basement sector offers good growth potential

Demand for basement construction has the potential to grow at a faster rate than other parts of the construction industry, according to ground support specialist MGF.

“We are seeing strong growth in demand for both new build basements and construction of subterranean levels below existing buildings,” says MGF business development manager Michael O’Hara. “There are very few commercial developments being planned that don’t involve basement levels but the residential redevelopment market is also bringing some multi million pound projects into the market.”

O’Hara also reported that basement projects that were designed three or four years ago and then shelved when the economic situation changed are now being revived and is creating another stream of work.
