Barrier brief

New test standards are being devised for temporary and permanent barriers used to provide additional security around buildings, government security advisers have revealed.

MFD International is carrying out crash tests to feed into the new standards.

Manufacturers and consultants attending a safety conference in London last week welcomed the move.

'Security consultants would welcome the introduction of UK test standards, ' said Buro Happold security consultant Andrew Kelly.

'We generally have to rely on a manufacturer's own test and crash ratings and, while I am sure these are accurate, there is always room for independent verification.'
