Balfour, Costain, Skanska and Atkins poised for Thames alliance

Contractors Balfour Beatty, Costain and Skanska and consultant Atkins look set to win key contracts on Thames Water’s £3bn AMP6 framework, NCE understands.

The contractors have been awarded design and build contracts and Atkins has been awarded a consulting civil engineer contract, according to construction industry analyst Glenigan.

Thames Water is expected to formally announce the full list of winners later this month.

Water: Next AMP starts in 2015

The shortlist for the alliance was announced in March.

Five consortiums are bidding for design and build contracts, three are bidding for programme management work and two for technology and innovation expert roles.

According to the shortlist, Atkins and Costain are in a design and build joint venture with water specialist Veolia.

Skanska and Balfour Beatty are partnered with consultant MWH.

Earlier this year, Thames Water capital delivery director Lawrence Gosden told NCE that the water company was planning to sign early contractor engagement alliance agreements in spring this year.

He also said that the alliance would consist of four design and build teams.
