Balfour Beatty to repair Weymouth harbour wall

Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering has been appointed by Weymouth and Portland Borough Council to carry out £3.3M of essential repairs to the harbour wall in Weymouth.

Essential upgrades to Weymouth Ferry Berth 3 were identified this summer, resulting in Condor Ferries which operate to the Channel Islands moving its Weymouth service to Poole as a temporary measure while the necessary repairs are carried out.

Balfour Beatty will replace the existing quay wall with a combi wall, using 14m long, 1,422mm diameter tubular piles and AZ18 sheet piles, a new capping beam and fenders. The contract also includes building works, covered walkways and ancillary works.

Work on site is due to start in November 2012 and is scheduled for completion in May next year.
