Contracting giant Balfour Beatty has said that it does not expect “operational staff” to lose their jobs as a result of a major restructure of its Construction Services UK division.
It confirmed that it was looking to accelerate a cost-cutting programme targetted at back office functions, but said that this would not affect front line staff.
“Balfour Beatty Group announced at the time of our year end results that ongoing programmes to achieve cost efficiency have been successful, and that we are planning to accelerate them. The achievements of 2011, and what we have learned, give us confidence to broaden these programmes in 2012 into other back office functions as well as into territories outside the UK. We are targeting to deliver a further £50M of savings per annum by 2015,” it said in a statement.
“As part of this programme, Balfour Beatty Construction Services UK has commenced a consultation period with its employees to seek employee feedback on proposals for change. This process is open to all CSUK employees and will determine the nature and extent of the changes we may eventually put in place.
“At this point in the process, no jobs have been put at risk. We do anticipate that there may be some future job losses if, following dialogue with all of our employees, the decision is made to proceed with the proposals for change. We do not envisage these job losses will affect operational employees involved in project delivery,” it said.
