Atkins wins place on UAE new nuclear build team

Consultant Atkins has this week been appointed technical adviser for the United Arab Emirates nuclear energy programme.

Atkins will be responsible for providing independent technical assessment of the programme, which will deliver four new reactors for the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (Enec).

The report will in turn inform the investment decisions of the private lenders – a combination of Export Credit Agencies and commercial banks.

Enec appointed a South Korean consortium led by Korea Electric Power Corporation to build four APR-1400 reactors in 2009. Atkins has been appointed to monitor and report on the construction and commissioning of the four reactors and will establish a core team of experts in Abu Dhabi.
