Atkins wins major nuclear contract

Consultant Atkins has won a major contract to expand uranium enrichment supplier Urenco’s plant in Capenhurst near Chester.

Atkins will design a cooling water system, electrical and control systems and a 3D model of the new plant.

The Capenhurst site operates three plants, the largest of which is E23 which houses more than 80% of the site’s enrichment capacity.

Urenco provides centrifuge enrichment or uranium to nuclear power utilities worldwide, operating sites in Germany, the Netherlands, UK and US.
