Atkins wins Highways Agency contract

Atkins has been appointed as the Highways Agency's managing agent contractor responsible for the maintenance of trunk roads in the East of England.

The five-year contract, worth an estimated £100M, will give Atkins responsibility for routine maintenance work on trunk roads falling under the designation Highways Agency Area 6, which covers Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.

Highways Agency Area 6 Performance Manager, Peter Smith, said: "We are very pleased to have appointed Atkins as our MAC provider for Area 6. Looking ahead, we will seek to build upon achievements to date and deliver a continually improving service to help our customers make safe and reliable journeys."

Under the terms of the contract, Atkins will also provide of an improved incident support service which must be capable of rapid deployment, and clearing dangerous incidents off the roads quickly.

Atkins will begin work on the A11, A12, A14, A47 and the A120 from 1st June. Work on the Maintenance work on the M11 will begin from the 1st September.
