Atkins' UK workforce grows

Atkins has grown its UK workforce this year, it revealed in a trading update yesterday.

The engineering and design consultancy said it had seen a “modest increase” in UK headcount since the start of its financial year on 31 March 2012.

Atkins was providing an update to the City ahead of its half-year results announcement on 15 November.

‘The good start to the year in our UK business has continued,’ it said. ‘Following the successful completion of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games we are commencing work on the legacy infrastructure.’

But Atkins said it had taken action over the past six months to reduce costs and “right-size” resources in its North American consultancy business.

Group headcount increased to about 17,700 from 17,420 at the end of March.
