Atkins sponsors civils professor at Greenwich

CONSULTANT ATKINS announced this week that it was sponsoring a civil engineering professorship at Greenwich University in south east London.

The five year, £700,000 sponsorship deal will also be used to fund industry relevant research and PhDs at the university.

Greenwich University is recruiting for the post. The winning candidate will liaise with engineers to ensure that leading edge design methods are fed into its courses.

Atkins will also provide work placements and sponsorship opportunities for undergraduates and employment for graduates.

Atkins chief executive Keith Clarke said: 'There is increasing competition among all industries and professions to secure the best possible talent, and we believe this type of investment is essential to guarantee a strong backbone for the future of civil engineering.' Atkins also plans to use the its connection with Greenwich to attract more women and ethnic minorities into civil engineering.
