Atkins lands SSE Hornsea framework partnership deal

Engineering design consultancy Atkins has won a contract from SSE Hornsea to act as framework partner for SSE gas storage sites in east Yorkshire.

Atkins will provide partner support on projects at Aldbrough and Hornsea in conjunction with German company DEEP Underground Engineering.

SSE Gas Storage head of projects Mark Jessop said: “The diversity of technical capability and competence demonstrated by Atkins is the key reason SSE has appointed the firm as engineering design consultancy.”

Phil Malem, managing director of Atkins’ power business, said: “These sites will help secure the UK’s energy supply for many years to come, and we are looking forward to working in partnership with SSE and DEEP on this exciting project.”

DEEP project director Jan Bernd Meyer said: “I am confident that our team will contribute a wealth of relevant expertise and will be an excellent addition to Atkins’ own capabilities since DEEP plays a leading role in the development of major gas cavern storage projects in Europe and abroad.”
