Atkins appointed to monitor East of England transport schemes

Atkins has been appointed to monitor and report on the development of high priority transport schemes highlighted in the East of England's Regional Funding Allocation (RFA).

Atkins is expected to review cost estimates submitted to the East of England Regional Assembly (EERA), and project timetables.

They will also be responsible for the scrutiny of schemes where costs or project schedules vary from the original plan.

Atkins' director of transport planning, Tony Meehan, said: "This appointment represents a significant step forward for our business in the East of England. It recognises our strength of expertise and technical skills that were used to develop RFA processes for both the South East and North West Regions of England."

The move to appoint Atkins is partly in preparation for the DfT's planned review of the RFA process this summer.

EERA regional planning and transport officer, Tim Bellamy, said: "EERA is pleased to welcome Atkins to this important project for the Region. Atkins work will play a vital role in ensuring the region can maximise the benefits of planned transport schemes in the RFA."
