Atkins and Mace top the league of top earners salaries

Top earners at Atkins, Mace, Mott MacDonald, RPS and WSP are revealed as being the highest paid consultants in NCE's top 20, research reveals this week.
Bosses at these five firms all earn in excess of £500,000 each.Top of the pay scale is privately owned Mace where the man at the top earns £698,000, second is public company Atkins, with Keith Clarke on £625,000 (see table).Once again the average earnings of the highest paid directors has risen over the past year, reflecting the continued industry boom for British consultants.On average, firms in NCE's top 20 paid their top directors 7% more than last year. The average pay increase was £22,672, although at least two of the top 20 consultants paid their highest earner less than the previous year.The average salary paid to senior and chief executives was £350,472 last year, compared with £327,800 in 2004. This includes bonuses but excludes share option and pension contributions.The figures are based on information included in the annual reports and accounts produced by the 20 largest firms ranked by fees rendered in the NCE Consultants File 2006.jon.young@emap.com
