Ask Brunel - he has all the answers

ICE news

ICE'S VIRTUAL IK Brunel has responded to over 600 online questions about civil engineering with an enthusiasm that the great man himself would have applauded.

The internet service Ask Brunel! - launched late last year - gives a 24 hour response to members' questions on any engineering subject.

The wise and knowledgeable one with the tall hat has so far been quizzed on a diverse range of questions. These have ranged from the derivations of formulæ for estimating the volume of storm water entering sewage treatment works to more personal questions about the range and variety of his famous cigars.

'If the answers are likely to be of general interest, they are stored in the knowledge bank and posted on the website for all to see, ' said an ICE spokesman. 'These will develop into a useful selection of FAQs for members to browse.' To use Ask Brunel! visit www.ice. org. uk/askbrunel and log into ICEextra, the secure members' area of the ICE website.
