Arup is launching a website survey next Thursday, 13 June, asking engineers across the globe: fiThe art of engineering depends on a deep understanding of the science that underpins it; do you feel that the balance between art and science was correctly achieved in your undergraduate course?' The survey can be accessed at www. arup. com, and the results will be released in September.

The launch coincides with Arup director Richard Haryott's participation in a live debate at Civils 2002, fiThe construction industry does not take training and development seriously'.

This will be broadcast around the event. See www. civils. com for details.
