Arup wins Rio Olympics design contracts

Consultant Arup has been awarded two contracts for the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

It will work with Brazilian design firms to work on the COT (Olympic Training Halls) and the Velodrome.

“Arup has been heavily involved in Olympic venues around the world – from the Water Cube and Birds nest for Beijing 2008 to the Aquatic Centre and Copper Box for London 2012. We are thrilled that Arup’s Brazil office has the opportunity to bring the firm’s global expertise to Rio 2016 and we look forward to working with our local partners to deliver outstanding venues,” said Arup’s group leader in Brazil, Ricardo Pittella.

The consultant will provide structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and sustainability consulting work on the COT. It is the largest sports venue of the games. Arup has teamed up with Brazilian design firm RioMais for the project.

It will also provide structural analysis of the Velodrome’s roof. Rio’s Mayor’s office will work with Arup on the contract.
