Arup wins £7M environmental contract with HS2

Scheme promoted High Speed 2 (HS2) has appointed Arup, supported by URS Scott Wilson, to provide Environmental Overview Services for the stretch of high speed rail line between London and the West Midlands.

This is the first contract – worth £7M - to be awarded under Lot 3 Environmental Services of HS2’s Professional Services Framework. 

Lot 3 comprises five packages and the remainder will be awarded for the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments. Arup will coordinate the work of the companies appointed to these contracts.

In this role, Arup will provide technical leadership and oversight in preparation of the assessments that include:

  • natural environment – biodiversity, water resources, geology and visual impact
  • historic environment – built heritage and archaeology
  • built environment – townscape, traffic and transport, waste and resources and planning policy
  • community – noise, air quality, community and property and agriculture
