Arup and Atkins join Olympic Park design team

ARUP AND Atkins have joined the winning consortium chosen to design London's Olympic park and infrastructure, the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) said this week.

They have joined the team behind the original master plan, but which was considered too small to handle the more detailed design project.

The original group included consulting engineer Buro Happold plus architects Allies & Morrison, HOK Sport and Foreign Office Architects.

It is led by architect and masterplanner EDAW.

The ODA decided to add Atkins and Arup because the project needed more engineering input.

'It was just a case of the more people working on this project, the better, ' said an ODA spokesman.

Who will do what has not yet been established but Prior said this would become clearer as the masterplan developed.

'What we have on the table now is a fairly simple explanation that gives the broad physical terms of what the park might be, ' said Prior.

'What we have won is a much more complex, richer, integrated piece of design and as we delve into that, that's where the expertise is going to get focused.

'That's also why you need a breadth of skills.'
