Architect of downfall

Would it not have been better to apply some value engineering to Paul Wheeler's problem?

If at the start he had done up his jacket, combed his hair and thrown away that shoulder bag, it is arguable that he could have saved himself £1,200.00.

As for Annabel Hodin, what was she wearing? Is she by any chance a failed architect?
