Arcadis joins design team for Jeddah transport system

Subsidiary Hyder Consulting to work on plans led by architect Foster + Partners for city-wide public transport system.

Arcadis is to join the team spearheaded by architect Foster + Partners to design a new city-wide public transport system for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Through its subsidiary Hyder Consulting, which it bought last year, the company will work on the architectural vision for the system.

The work includes design of metro, ferry, bus, cycle and public services. This expands to areas such as the design of metro stations, trains and branding. Currently only 12% of the population of Jeddah live within a ten minute walk of a transport link, the project aims to increase this to 50%.

Much of the work will be performed by Hyder in the Middle East and the UK with the support of Arcadis’ station design team.

Arcadis board member Stephan Ritter said: “This is yet another strong example of the combined multinational strength of Hyder and Arcadis, which has fortified our position in key infrastructure design in the Middle East.”
