Anti-discrimination moves

The ICE Council has made a clear stand againstdiscrimination by approving the establishment of an Equal Opportunities Forum.

The Opportunities group grew out of the Future Framework Presidential Commission which proposed setting up a Women's Forum to tackle the worryingly low number of female ICE members. The Council had rejected this proposal, feeling that it was too 'narrow', and proposed an Equal Opportunities group as analternative.

The forum's terms ofreference include:

ensuring equal opportunities in training and professional development;

instigating research into obstacles against equal opportunities in the industry and associated professions.

advertising the 'caring side' of the profession by welcoming diversity of gender, race, religion andage, and nurturing this by mentoring and support networks.

The forum has produced two papers, one on opportunities for older members and another on career flexibility.
