Scott Steedman, director of engineering at consultant Gibb, has received the 1999 SP Research Foundation award for excellence in geotechnical engineering practice.

Richard Dean has joined May Gurney (Construction) as managing director. Previously with Morrison Construction, he takes over from David Sterry who becomes chief executive of the group.

John Singleton has been promoted to divisional managing director of Vibroplant's Construction Services division.

Binnie Black & Veatch has appointed Martin McMillan managing director of the Asia Pacific Division of its infrastructure business. He succeeds Chris Walters, who is taking early retirement.

Michael Young has joined Water Management Consultants as operations manager of its Santiago office in Chile.
