Bachy Soletanche non-executive director Peter Shiells has received an OBE for services to the construction industry.

Christopher Slack has joined Weeks Group as head of the firm's UK Laboratory Testing Network. He was previously Southern Water director of operations for Sussex.

Stuart Hedgecott has joined Gibb Environmental as environmental specialist responsible for industrial and environmental water projects.

Ken Read has been appointed as principal geoenvironmental engineer at Allott and Lomax in the Birmingham office.

Robert Semple has joined Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers as geotechnical associate at the consultant's New York office.

Geotechnical contractors A&G Drilling and Grouting and CH Steavenson have merged to form A&G (Steavenson). Alan German is managing director of the new firm, which is part of the Van Elle Group.

BGS administrator Grace Chen left the ICE at Christmas. At the BGS committee meeting in December BGS chairman Quentin Leiper thanked Ms Chen for her work on behalf of the society. Ms Chen said she was sorry to be relinquishing her role at such an important time for the society and said she had enjoyed her work with the society's members. ICE's Kate Davies will cover administrative duties until a permanent replacement is recruited.

RMC Group has announced a number of board changes. UK Retail division executive director Mike Robertshaw retired last month and UK Heavy Building Materials division executive director Richard Swinson will retire this summer. Mike Foster, executive vice president of Kvaerner Group, has been appointed an executive director for the group's operations in the UK and Ireland.
