Alnaboodah Contracting

Dubai-based Alnaboodah Contracting is building a series of dams in the Ra's al Khaymah area of United Arab Emirates.

The dams are designed to stop the damage caused by mountain flash floods.

The rock fill dams have cores of small diameter stone, with material increasing in size to large boulders on the surface.

The large boulders are being placed using a Strickland Direct heavy duty rock grapple mounted on a 50t Cat 350 excavator. The grapple is constructed from abrasion resistant high tensile steel with heavy duty fabricated teeth.

UK firm Strickland says the equipment is particularly useful for moving and placing large boulders used in sea defences and demolition work.
