Comment on: Concerns mount over Euston Station redevelopment
Can you imagine getting off HS2, traverse the station and then having to cross the road to get to crossrail 2? Err.. Well yes quite easily actually as this is exactly the situation with HS1 and crossrail 1 at Stratford, where you can see the other station platforms but have to go walkies or on DLR to Boris's white elephant Stratford International. So a three station solution is normal under Failing Grayling. Time for a rail review.
HS1 and Crossrail cross each other in open ground at Stratford station (end of platform 10). Direct connection is trivial and very very low cost, but lets spend £1.5 b instead.
Lack of proper information is a disgrace. Why is Shenfield to Paddington further delayed, surely could be rescheduled to meet original date?
How to save £10 billion and bring forward economic benefits by 10 years? Start Midland Mainline electrification from North to South with Leeds to Sheffield first. Halt HS2 at Sheffield and don't build HS2 leg to to Leeds, which does not meet economic business case.
Why not start with a connection between HS1 and Crossrail at platform 10 of Stratford station, where you can stand and see the HS1 stratford international station just a couple of hundred yards away. Easy connection to integrate Stratford international into Stratford by a single pedestrian tunnel. Ebbsfleet is then directly connected to 5 tube lines and Elizabeth line, would be open in a year and not cost £1.5b. Not a big prestigious scheme so no political support. And people wonder why transport is a mess in this country.
