Comment on: Exclusive | Armitt on cutting HS2 phase 2 costs
You are looking in the wrong place for savings John! How about saving £10 billion by going back to the original option appraisal routes and hence bringing the economic benefits forward by 10 years?
Bit baffled why the Shenfield branch, which is already operating is delayed by a year. Instead of sticking with original plan and just pushing everything back, surely a different phasing is now possible?
Surely it's more professional to argue for the £10 billion cheaper option that delivers the economic benefits 10 years earlier, at a time cost of 3 minutes at Leeds?
Clearly no business case for a tiny reduction in journey times to Leeds, where improvements to ECML will deliver improvements anyway. Save £13 billion and use 140mph trains from Sheffield and Crewe going north and electrify and improve MML. Simples!
Comment on: Concerns mount over Euston Station redevelopment
Can you imagine getting off HS2, traverse the station and then having to cross the road to get to crossrail 2? Err.. Well yes quite easily actually as this is exactly the situation with HS1 and crossrail 1 at Stratford, where you can see the other station platforms but have to go walkies or on DLR to Boris's white elephant Stratford International. So a three station solution is normal under Failing Grayling. Time for a rail review.
