Abstraction permit

Required for short-term dewatering abstractions, including 'emergency' abstractions, provided the water is discharged without beneficial use. The criterion for a permit is that the abstraction is short term (ie less than one month). Each permit will be valid for not more than one month. The EA is likely to take steps to prevent abuse of the system by successive applications for permits on sites where dewatering is required for longer than originally intended. After one month such sites are likely to require a consent.
