A1 bridges work to get underway

Work to maintain bridge joints along the A1 at Gateshead in Tyneside will get underway later this month.

A total of six bridge movement joints at Blaydon Bridge, which carries the A1 over the River Tyne, and at Blaydon Haugh Viaduct, will be refurbished in the six week in a £400,000 project.

The work, which is due to start on 19 September, and be completed by 31 October, will involve overnight alternating closures of the northbound and southbound carriageways along a 4km stretch of the route at different stages.

When carriageway closures are in place, clearly signed diversions will be in place.
