A tier to the eye


Well, as if my mid-life crisis wasn't looming fast enough, reading your article about the two exam routes to corporate membership (NCE 9 March) set me in the 'older engineers will remember. . .' category.

Reading on, of course, I noted you were talking about a system in the 70s (which I do not remember), not the Chilver CPR1 and CPR2 exam system that lasted until around 1993 when I qualified. I must say, I was never quite sure why it was abandoned.

It certainly suited my requirements at the time for many of the same reasons mentioned today; none more so than the increased salary at each step. Good luck to graduates who try the 'new' route.
