A study into the effects of landfill sites on public health

A study into the effects of landfill sites on public health published last week was inconclusive because nearly 80% of the UK population lives within 2km of an active or disused landfill site. The report by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine found that it was impossible to determine what congenital health defects were directly linked to landfill.

WS Atkins has been selected by the Strategic Rail Authority to carry out a feasibility study for a proposed high-speed line from London to the north of England. The one year £1.2M study will investigate the economic impact of the line as well the eventual route and destinations.
