A Blinking liberty

A recent letter discussing the merits of adverts promoting the construction industry makes reference to inspiring examples of major engineering projects such as the Millennium Stadium and the Blinking Eye bridge.

NCE published a photograph alongside illustrating the positive image of 'Newcastle's Blinking Eye', but the photograph clearly shows the Gateshead Millennium Bridge.

This mis-naming of the bridge has proved a great source of embarrassment and, in some cases rage, among the officers and members of the Gateshead Council over the last four or five years.

Could you please help to preserve our sanity by referring to the bridge as the Gateshead Millennium Bridge in future.

Steve Richards, construction services manger, development and enterprise, Gateshead Council, Civic Centre, Regent Street, Gateshead, NE8 1HH.
